Trail Overview
It gives you the chance to see the “Big Five,” which is ideal for those with limited time. Amazing views of the Rift Valley, the majestic Ngorongoro crater, spending a day with Tarangire’s elephants, and traveling back in time to experience the Hadzabe’s (Bushmen) primitive way of life—hunting and gathering—are just a few of the highlights. One of the rewards of this adventure is the chance to see the “Big Five.”
Day 1: Arusha – TARANGIRE
The guide picks you up from your lodging place in Arusha or it enviros and proceeds to Tarangire national park. This park, with 2850 square kilometres, is known for its large herds of elephants, baobab trees and good scenery. Apart from the rhinoceros, the remaining members of the “Big Five”; Elephants, Buffalos, Lions and Leopard, can be spotted. Overnight will be at a lodge within or on the periphery of Tarangire National Park.
Day 2: Tarangire – Lake MANYARA
Early breakfast is served then drive to Lake Manyara National Park for wildlife viewing tour. The distance between the two parks being less than an hour; it is easy to transit between the wilderness areas. Like all most lakes which lie within the rift valley, Lake Manyara’s water are shallow and salty making it one of the hotspots for viewing water-birds.
A tour in Lake Manyara will afford you great landscapes due to the presence of the rift valley escarpment, evident vegetation segmentation, a large variety of bird species, including migratory birds which come from as far as Europe and common African wild animals such as Lions (many have been spotted on trees), elephants, giraffe, monkeys and hippopotamuses. After afternoon session you will drive to Ngorongoro conservation area for overnight at a lodge on the rim of the crater or Ngorongoro highlands.
Day 3: NGORONGORO Crater
Today, the earliest breakfast is served then check-in into Ngorongoro conservation area where you will descend into the crater for tour. Listed among the seven natural wonders of Africa, Ngorongoro crater is 610 meters deep and occupies and area of about 260 square kilometres. The endangered Black Rhinoceros, according to IUCN listing, is being refuged here and it is one of the few places to spot the animal in natural habitat.
In addition to amazing landscapes, you will be rewarded by a good number of animals including Rhinoceros (rare), elephants, hyenas, lions wildebeests and many others. In the evening you will exit the crater and drive to Lake Eyasi region where y will spend the night in reserved lodge.
Day 4: Lake EYASI
At around 06h0, before breakfast, get off the bed and catch up with the Bushmen (Hadzabe tribesmen) as they go for the morning hunt; you are allowed and they are receptive should you want to participate in the hunt with them.
At around 09h0, return to the lodge for breakfast then visit neighbouring communities (pastoralists and blacksmiths) for the exchange of knowledge. Lunch in the lodge at around midday then drive back to Arusha, airport or your lodge where you will say goodbye to your safari guide.
