Overview
Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most underrated gems, known for its vast elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, and diverse wildlife. Located about 120 km southwest of Arusha, it covers approximately 2,850 square kilometers and is part of Tanzania’s northern safari circuit.
Wildlife & Landscape
- Elephants: Tarangire has one of the highest elephant concentrations in Africa, with large herds roaming freely.
- Baobab Trees: These ancient trees dominate the landscape, providing a striking contrast to the savannah.
- Big Cats: Lions, leopards, and cheetahs are frequently spotted.
- Birdlife: Over 500 bird species, including the colorful yellow-collared lovebird, kori bustard, and various raptors.
- Other Animals: Giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalos, impalas, and the rare fringe-eared oryx and greater kudu.
- Tarangire River: A permanent water source that attracts wildlife, especially during the dry season (June – October).

- Dry Season (June – October): Best for wildlife viewing, as animals gather near the river.
- Wet Season (November – May): Lush scenery, fewer tourists, and excellent birdwatching.
